Impact & Transition

The global environment is being reshaped by geopolitical fragmentation, geoeconomic competition, rapid technological change and the growing strategic role of finance. Geopolitics is redirecting trade, supply chains and investment. Strategic technologies are redefining economic power and competitive advantage. Capital conditions set the room for manoeuvre available to governments, companies and investors.

Decisions on strategy, capital allocation, risk, governance and policy now depend on several of these systems at once. Understanding this environment requires both deep expertise in each field and frameworks capable of connecting them.

Drawing on nearly three decades of analysis and decision-making in global markets, including as a chief economist, as well as in central banking, research and innovation, technology entrepreneurship and board governance, I help investors, executives and policymakers see the connections that matter, assess their implications and choose the way forward.

Ideas

Key ideas
shaping my work

The themes below reflect an understanding that began to take shape during my studies and early work as an applied macroeconomist in financial markets, and has been refined over time: real-world developments cannot be interpreted or anticipated through a single discipline, and sound decisions depend on reliable data and rigorous analysis.

01

Macroeconomics and financial stability

I connect macroeconomic forecasting and policy analysis with their effects on markets and systemic risk. This reflects direct experience in macroprudential regulation, alongside work on monetary policy and the global outlook.

02

Market forces and political power

Economics and politics are inseparable. States, institutions and markets shape one another. Together, they influence how governments, investors and businesses act.

03

Finance for growth

Growth and strategic transformation require capital at scale. Deep, liquid and internationally connected capital markets are needed to finance technology, energy, infrastructure and future growth.

04

Satellite technologies and AI

I recognised early that satellite data, AI and computing would transform how the physical world is measured, valued and governed. This is why I founded GlobeEye, which applies satellite data, alternative data, and AI to environmental intelligence.
